Personnel Dredge Channel on Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya

The Blue Troops of the Water Resources Implementation Unit of Mampang Prapatan District, South Jakarta, dredged mud sediment and garbage in the water channel on Jalan Mampang Prapatan Raya, Mampang Prapatan Urban Village.

Took immediate action

Unit Coordinator, Amir said the mud thickness and garbage deposits reduces the channel's capacity, thus triggering blockages.

"Previously, this area was frequently flooded. We searched for the root cause of the problem until we finally found it and took immediate action," he said, Friday (9/18).

Amir explained that the blockage was caused not only by trash and sediment, but also by the presence of optical cables and banyan tree roots growing inside the channel. These conditions further subside the water flow.

"The thickness of the mud and debris sediment has reached around 60 to 70 centimeters. We dredged a 10-meter stretch," he explained.

He hopes the dredging can be completed by the weekend.

"Hopefully the channel can continue to function well so that water doesn't overflow onto the road again during heavy rain," he hoped.

Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Firdaus stated during the last heavy rain, water overflowed onto the main road and caused traffic jams due to the high levels of water.

"Judging by the condition of the drainage system at the location, it's incredibly messy. Workers must first cut through the roots and remove the cables. Hopefully the results will be effective in preventing flooding," he stated.
